Grants

The Friends of the Livermore Public Library uses our raised and donated funds to achieve our mission of supporting the Livermore Public Library and it’s services and programs. Please see below for a list of our recent grants.

March 2025 Board meeting

  • $1200 for the StoryWalk Books and Bookmark Art Contest. The StoryWalk program is a partnership between the Livermore Public Library and LARPD to encourage families to read a picture book together while enjoying exercise and nature. The third annual Bookmark Art Contest will encourage library users of all ages to share their artwork with the community at large. The bookmarks also serve as a helpful resource for all, since the Library’s locations, hours, and phone numbers will be printed on the back.

January 2025 Board Meeting

  • $27,250 for the Summer Learning Program. This sponsors the events, performers, prizes, and supplies for the program for all ages.

  • $500 for Rincon Homework Help Incentive Game. This includes supplies that would provide tools that tutors can use during their sessions with students as well as for an incentive game/program to help the students keep motivated when attending.

November 2024 Board Meeting

  • $10,000 for establishing an International Language eBook Collection on the Overdrive platform. This will allow the library to establish a solid set of materials in the six largest languages spoken at home in Livermore (Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Farsi, Tagalog, and Vietnamese).

  • $5,000 for the continuation of the Authors and Arts series. This funding will be used to hire authors, musicians, and other cultural and artistic presenters.

  • $4,000 for Black History Month celebrations at the Library locations. The Library will use this funding to provide events featuring musical entertainment, literary and artistic programming celebrating Black artists, as well as a gallery show and reception honoring Black artists from Art of the African Diaspora.

  • $3,350 for Spring 2025 programming and supplies. This includes materials for the continuation of the elementary and tween aged weekly Maker Madness series, the teen led Under the Lens semi-monthly series, and prizes for a trivia event being held in partnership with EBRPD and Springtown Monthly Scavenger Hunts. This money will also fund the annual Dia del Niño event in April.

  • $1.400 for the Opportunities Expo. This will help fund food and a photographer for the Education and Career Pathway Resources for Adults event. This will be a collaborative project to bring workforce development resources to all members of our community, ages 16 and older.

September 2024 Board Meeting

  • $6,200 for 2024 Winter Reading Program Prizes. The Friends of the Library are sponsoring registration and raffle prizes for the 2024 Winter Reading Program. The Winter Reading Program has become an annual tradition at Livermore Public Library thanks to the two previous years’ resounding success.

  • $925 for Fall 2024 Maker Madness & Outdoor Skills Programming. The Friends of the Library are sponsoring the supplies and snacks for the Children’s Maker Madness, and an outdoor skills program. Maker Madness is a weekly STEAM maker series where children in grades four and up are invited to take part in a specific activity. Activities that have been planned include making Popping Boba, epoxy keychains, bath bombs, masquerade masks, mending, friendship bracelets, acrylic pour painting, snowflake lanterns, soap making, and more. The outdoor skills program is a two-part series, where students in grades 4-8 are invited to learn these important skills at the Civic Center Library. They will be learning things like how to use a compass, read a trail map, and arrange logs for a fire. Then, two days later, participants will visit Del Valle Regional Park with a naturalist to put these skills in practice.

  • $250 for refreshments for guests during the College Fair hosted by the Livermore Public Library on October 2, 2024. Over 25 different colleges have agreed to table at this event, giving local high school students and families the opportunity to meet with college representatives about their programs offer.

July 2024 Board Meeting

  • $5,000 for Latinx / Hispanic Heritage Month Celebrations at Livermore Public Library Locations. The Livermore Public Library will bring in a professional Cuban dance group, a poetry workshop, a local vitner, crafts, and more.

  • $2,500 for the 2024 Diwali Celebration. The event will span multiple hours and include various performances representing different regions in India. These dances will provide an opportunity for community members to better understand the rich diversity seen in India. Additionally, there are plans to have art forms of other kinds like a Henna workstation, and workshops on Indian painting styles (such as Warli or Madhubani), along with the potential for a martial arts demonstration.

  • $1,700 for Media Literacy Lecture Series for Adults. This will be a two-week Media Literacy Lecture Series in September, offered by Cierra Bailey, East Bay Division Editor for Embarcadero Media. The lecture series and resulting videos are intended to serve as a public resource to enhance local public awareness and empower lifelong learning in the areas of civic engagement, news literacy and responsible consumption of information in environments such as social media, television, YouTube, user-generated content, television, and emerging communications platforms.

  • $650 for Fall Family Board Game Night Event, LARPD Family Campfire Event Snacks, November/December Storywalk Book. Friends will help fund the purchase of board games and snacks for attendees of Family Board Game Night event at the Civic Center Library on November 25, 2024. Livermore Public Library will also be co-hosting a Family Campfire event in partnership with LARPD. Funds from Friends allow for snacks to be purchased, along with bottled water. Fund the purchase of storybook for the Storywalk.

March 2024 Board Meeting

  • $12,000 for 2024 Summer Reading Program. This will help fund the program, materials, prizes, events, and celebrations.

  • $5,000 for the continuation of the Friends Authors and Arts series. This will help to provide funding to hire authors, musicians, and other cultural or artistic presentations.

  • $500 to sponsor the 2024 Teen Art Expo, where the Library invites students to display their art works in the Art Gallery.

January 2024 Board Meeting

  • $1,000 for a special collection of mental health and wellness books to be housed at the Joe Michell School Wellness Center. Library staff, with school counselor input, will use the donation to select books on mental health and social emotional skills to serve Livermore students.

  • $8,500 and 2,000 one-book vouchers from the Friends of the Livermore Library Bookstore for the 2024 Summer Reading program. This will fund raffle and registration prizes, a volunteer appreciation event, and marketing for the program.

november 2023 Board Meeting

  • $400 for Our Discovery Stories Author Reception. The Library’s Literacy Program is publishing Our Discovery Stories, a collection of writings by adult learners, and will celebrate with an Author’s reception.

  • $400 for the Haiku Book Review Contest coming to the Library in February 2024 for National Haiku Month.

September 2023 Board Meeting

  • $1,600 for Opportunity Expo: Education and Career Pathway Resources for Adults.

  • $7,500 for Winter Reading Prizes.

  • $625 for Halloween Festivities, Spring Town Scavenger Hunt and Sycamore Grove Field Trips.

  • $3,000 for Black History Month Celebrations at various Library Locations.

July 2023 Board Meeting

  • $100 for a Nutritional Program for children and their parents in collaboration with Livermore Eat More Vegetables.

  • $500 for a Bookmark Art Contest to fund the printing of the winning bookmark designs.
